Shooting Suspect Arrested After Standoff With Lubbock PD SWAT Team
For the second consecutive day, the Lubbock Police Department SWAT team was involved in a standoff.
Monday night’s incident started when a report of a gunshot victim being admitted to Covenant Hospital was called into LPD around 7:30 p.m. The victim told police the shooting occurred in the 2800 block of 35th Street and gave a description of the suspect.
When police arrived on the scene about a half-hour later, they found a stolen Volkswagen and the suspect, 37-year-old Lanny Douglas Sanders.
Sanders ran inside a residence and barricaded himself inside, rather than talking to officers. The SWAT Team was called to the scene. After some time, the standoff ended peacefully and Sanders was arrested.
Lanny Sanders was charged with aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and discharge of a firearm in a municipality. Sanders is in custody at the Lubbock County Jail.
