Power Slap Is Bringing Its First Texas Event to Lubbock

Well, here's something you don't see every day.

Two people are going to stand across from each other inside United Supermarkets Arena and take turns slapping the ever-loving crap out of one another.

And people are buying tickets to watch it.

Power Slap is officially coming to Lubbock, and this isn't just another stop on the schedule. The September event will mark the organization's historic Texas debut.

Power Slap Takes Over United Supermarkets Arena

Double Eagle Energy Power Slap 23: Wolverine vs. Greenhalgh is scheduled for Thursday, September 17th, at United Supermarkets Arena on the Texas Tech campus.

Fort Worth-based Double Eagle Energy has signed on as the title sponsor for the event.

Power Slap CEO Frank Lamicella said,

When we decided to bring Power Slap to Lubbock, we wanted to team up with a premier brand that is authentic to West Texas and that resonates with fans in the region

Lamicella also credited Lubbock, Texas Tech and Double Eagle Energy co-CEOs Cody Campbell and John Sellers for supporting the organization's efforts to bring the event to West Texas.

Wolverine vs. Kill Shot

And yes, the competitors have exactly the kind of names you'd hope slap fighters would have.

The main event features reigning Power Slap Light Heavyweight Champion Wolverine defending his title against No. 1-ranked contender Logan “Kill Shot” Greenhalgh.

Power Slap describes Wolverine as the most accomplished slap fighter in the history of the sport.

The co-main event features Cole “Born Again” Young defending his welterweight championship against undefeated challenger Andrew “Big Bad Wolf” Provost.

If those nicknames don't make you want to hear them announced over the United Supermarkets Arena sound system, I don't know what will.

Wrestling and UFC Fans Will Recognize a Couple of Names

There are also two familiar faces on the card.

Former WWE Champion Jake Hager, better known to many wrestling fans as Jack Swagger, is scheduled to compete.

Former UFC heavyweight Chris “Beast Boy” Barnett will also appear.

Power Slap was founded by Dana White in partnership with UFC and bills itself as the world's premier slap-fighting promotion. Events are regulated by athletic authorities, including the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and are streamed worldwide on YouTube.

How to Get Tickets in Lubbock

Tickets for Power Slap 23 start at $20 and are available through AXS and directly from the Select-A-Seat box office at 806-770-2000.

The event happens Thursday, September 17, at United Supermarkets Arena.

Lubbock has hosted football, basketball, concerts, rodeos, wrestling and just about everything else over the years.

Now we can add professional slap fighting to the list.

And somehow, that feels like something West Texas is going to understand immediately.
