Behind the Scenes of the Making of Oak Ridge Elementary’s ABCs of Cancer Video
What a tremendous job these students did! A great big congratulations and many thanks for all of their hard work practicing their parts and creating a very heartfelt presentation of the ABCs of Cancer, written by the children at St. Jude's.
Many of the stories told were upbeat, but many were difficult descriptions of the challenges the children at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital face every day.
The students from Oak Ridge Elementary were very brave. Not only did they read the messages from the children of St Jude's, but they took time to imagine what it must be like facing something so difficult with a brave smile and courageous words.
The kids started in our conference room and then lined up in the hall and took turns reading their parts in our production rooms. (You can see Boleo from our sister station 102.5 Kiss-FM coaching one of the students in the photo gallery above.)
After they recorded their voices, they stopped in to visit the Lonestar 99.5 FM control room on their way to the video shoot. The video shoot with our Digital Managing Editor Justin was set up with some large station banners and posters of the St. Jude children as the backdrop.
When all the kids were finished reading the ABCs of Cancer, we snapped a big group shot with their teachers. Then, we continued the tour through the building where we visited some of our sister stations, including the Kiss FM studio and KFMX control room.
Finally, at the end of the tour, everyone gathered back in the conference room for ice cream. A well-deserved treat!
The making of our ABCs of Cancer video was a miracle in the making. When you hear the St. Jude stories in the voices of these children, you have a greater sense of understanding. How dear and precious these young lives are. They have their whole lives before them, and with your contribution, you can help to make that possible.
