A verdict has been reached in the trial of former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin.

Dora Epstein Jones, who serves as an associate professor with the College of Architecture at Texas Tech, took to social media to say the City of Lubbock should change its name due to Thomas S. Lubbock's ties to the Confederate Army.

The event was organized by The 100 Black Men of West Texas. Lubbock Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope and Police Chief Floyd Mitchell were among those who spoke to the crowd, with Mayor Pope speaking about a message of unity and peaceful protests.

Lubbock police were called to an organized protest on Saturday, May 30th after protesters grew concerned over an armed individual.
