I love barbeque. I love cooking all kinds of barbeque. I'll try pretty much ANYTHING once. But, it's gonna have to be some epically bad BBQ for me to turn it down.

As a matter of fact, my neighbor is a great guy from South Africa. When he came to live next door to me, one of the first things he said was, "You look like a fella who likes to eat. You're in luck because I'm one of the best barbeque cooks in all of South Africa!"

Turns out, he was right! That dude makes some of the tastiest BBQ I've ever had. Theirs is a little different than the traditional 'Texas' way of slow cooking meat. It's more fruity and they don't use as much BBQ sauce. It's more of a 'vinegar and tomato compote' kind of sauce. He also cooks a lot of lamb...which is fine by me!

I don't know if it's just him or the entire population of South Africa that does this, but he serves his with a side of cheesy garlic escargot. It's kinda his version of mac & cheese, but with garlic and snails. It's weird for sure, but it's DELICIOUS!

I say all this to say, we're lucky here in West Texas because we have a LOT of options when it comes to great BBQ. But it's hard to pick a favorite.
