Texas-Based Companies Rank Highly on Forbes List of Best Employers for 2015
Looking to start a new career? Forbes recently released a listing of top American employers for 2015 with dozens of Texas-based companies on the list, three of which are in the top 25.
Topping the list for Texas-based companies is The Container Store, headquartered in Coppell, which was listed fourth. The Container Store sells organizational items. According to Forbes, the retailer employs more than 4,000.
The Container Store created a non-profit organization, The Employee First Fund, to support their “employee-first culture”, according to their website.
The fund, “provides grants to employees experiencing unforeseen emergencies like a major medical situation, a catastrophic event, or other grave challenges that they are not financially prepared to deal with.” The Container Store said the project was initially funded with company contributions but is sustained by employees and company stakeholders.
United Services Auto Association, headquartered in San Antonio with more than 25,000 employees, came in 11th on Forbes’ list. Other San Antonio-based companies on the list include HEB Grocery, ranked 67th; and Valero Energy, ranked 280th.
Dallas-based Southwest Airlines was listed as the best airline to work for at #18 with JetBlue Airways, from Long Island City, New York, trailing at #19.
A statement from Southwest Airlines Chairman, President and CEO Gary Kelly read in part, “I am honored to share this recognition with all of our people at Southwest. We're so fortunate to have employees who consider their work a calling.”
Other Texas-based companies listed include 45th-ranked Whole Food Market, headquartered in Bowie.
Topping the list was Google, based in California, and Washington-based Costco Wholesale.
