Texas Has the Number TWO Economy in the USA? Who Beat Us?
Some people have a general sense for the aspects of the economy that are strong and weak nationally and EVERYONE has a sense for the economy of their own wallets. But what about within their state?
CNBC just put out lists of the states with the best and worst economies, considering many factors, including job growth, state finances (like fiscal reserves, pension obligations, and credit ratings), the health of the housing market, new business formations and foreign investment in each state.
Overall, the state with the best economy right now is: Florida.
Here's the rest of the Top 10 states with HUMMING ECONOMIES:
2. Texas
3. Tennessee
4. North Carolina
5. Arizona
6. Utah
7. Georgia
8. Nevada
9. Idaho
10. Delaware.
The state where the numbers look the WORST is: Mississippi.
Here's the rest of the Top 10 states with SLUMPING ECONOMIES:
2. Hawaii
3. New Hampshire
4. Louisiana
5. Kansas
6. Kentucky
7. A three-way tie between Rhode Island, Maine, and Illinois
10. Vermont
These rankings were part of a bigger report on the top states for BUSINESS in 2024. The economy was one component, along with stuff like infrastructure, the quality of life, technology and innovation, and the cost of doing business.
For that overall list, Virginia ranked as the top state for business, followed by North Carolina, Texas, Georgia and Florida.
Hawaii ranked LAST, followed by Mississippi, Alaska, Louisiana and Montana.
If you care, two of the other bigger states, California and New York, are middle of the road. They both ranked near the top for technology and innovation, as well as quality of life. But near the bottom for the cost of doing business and general "business friendliness."
