Being recognized by the culinary experts at Texas Monthly is a really big deal. Texas Monthly is a well-respected source of fantastic food reviews and news, and is currently the only magazine I have a subscription to, for that reason. To be featured, you have to be better than good, you have to stand above the rest. Texas is a huge state with big cities full of fantastic food. So when you're a BBQ joint in a city with a population less than 5,000, Texas Monthly's attention means you are doing something very, very right.

Wofforth's Evie Mae's Pit Barbeque (217 US-62) will be a featured stop on Texas Monthly's BBQ Fest: Road Trip Edition. Yes, I realize I referred to a Wofforth restaurant as a Lubbock favorite, but that's because we pilgrimage there en masse. Also there's a great location of Evie Mae's inside United on 114th & Slide, so we get some claim to their fame.

There's only three stops on the tour, and Evie Mae's is one of them:

As we get ready for the release of Texas Monthly’s latest edition of the Top 50 barbecue joints lists, we’re taking our beloved annual barbecue festival on the road. Texas Monthly BBQ Fest: Road Trip Edition will feature a series of three Pit Stop events from the Rio Grande Valley to the Panhandle

The event features a tour of the facility, a Q& A with four pitmasters, and of course, plenty of food:

Calling all hardcore ‘cue fans! Get an insider’s look at live fire cooking and meat science, with a behind-the-scenes tour from folks at Evie Mae’s Pit Barbeque. Enjoy a seated dinner with a lively ‘Cue & A’ panel between barbecue editor Daniel Vaughn and four West Texas pitmasters:

Evie Mae’s Pit Barbeque (Pitmaster: Arnis Robbins)

Tyler’s BBQ (Pitmaster: Tyler Frazer/Kali Wallace)

Rejino BBQ (Pitmaster: Aaron Rejino)

Pitforks & Smokerings (Pitmaster: Isaac Arellano)

This isn't the first time Evie Mae's has gotten recognition from Texas Monthly. In fact, there are several articles about the eatery dating back to 2015, and Evie Mae's has made the Top 50 in Texas list. Considering you can't swing a cat without hitting a BBQ restaurant in Texas, that's quite the honor indeed.

Tickets to the event are available through Eventbrite and are $150 per person, 21 & up only.
