Texas Non-Profit Gifts 400th Home To Injured Army Specialist
What’s better than a feel-good story during the holiday season? How about one involving a life-changing gift for a true American hero right here in Texas? Building Homes for Heroes just hit a major milestone by gifting its 400th home to U.S. Army Specialist Joshua Sager and his family in Argyle, Texas, just a short drive north of Dallas.
Specialist Sager’s story is nothing short of inspiring. He served with the Scout Surveillance and Reconnaissance platoon for 3/509th Infantry before suffering catastrophic injuries in a parachute training accident. Doctors thought he’d never walk again, but thanks to 18 months of intense rehab and sheer determination, Specialist Sager defied the odds. Now, he and his family have a mortgage-free home to help them move forward!
The celebration in Argyle was Texas-sized for sure! The town pulled out all the stops, with marching bands, cheerleaders, motorcycle groups, and even a holiday-themed procession. Hundreds of community members turned out to honor Specialist Sager and mark this milestone for Building Homes for Heroes, which has been making a difference for veterans and first responders for nearly two decades.
Founded in the aftermath of 9/11, Building Homes for Heroes started with one home and has grown to gift one home every 10 days on average. Their goal? To hit 500 homes by 2026. But they don’t stop at homes—they also offer financial guidance, wellness programs, and emergency funding to help veterans and their families.
As we head into Christmas, it’s heartwarming to see heroes like Specialist Sager honored in such a meaningful way. Learn more at buildinghomesforheroes.org. What a great way to spread the holiday spirit!
