Texas Reaches Record Low Unemployment Rate; Lubbock Is Even Lower
Ten years ago, many people took the recession right on the chin. Thousands lost jobs, took pay cuts, or even left the workforce entirely. It's been a decade coming, but unemployment is now at record lows for many states, Texas included.
Texas is now at a 3.8 unemployment rate. That means only about four out of 100 people who can and want to be employed are currently looking for jobs. And Lubbock has an unemployment that's even lower: 2.7 percent.
This is great news for employees, because now it's companies scrambling to fill positions and not the other way around. Over time, low employment rates generally lead to increased wages -- possibly through raises or through folks seeking a more lucrative company to work for.
If you've felt held back, perhaps now is the time to take that leap toward a new position or to ask for a raise. Good luck to you!
