Texas Robbery Fail: Man Foiled By Cashier And Nail Clippers At Family Dollar
Only in Texas could a robbery attempt turn into a comedy of errors so wild you’d think it was scripted for TV. This bizarre story out of Abilene, just 160 or so miles from Lubbock, has the internet in stitches — and scratching their heads.
On August 7, 2024, Kasey-Mighel Ranaldo-Ray Soares (now THAT'S a name!) walked into a Family Dollar in Abilene with one goal: robbing the place. Acting like he had a firearm, he demanded the cashier open the register and hand over the loot. Pretty typical robbery move, right? Well, this is where things take a turn.
The employee coolly informed Soares that the register wouldn’t open unless he made a purchase. And instead of storming off or causing more chaos, Soares tried to buy nail clippers. Yes, nail clippers. Once the drawer opened, the quick-thinking cashier slammed it shut before he could grab a dime. You can’t make this stuff up.
Defeated and without a single penny, Soares left the store. He didn’t get far, though, as police found him not long after on a nearby street. According to court documents, Soares admitted he had been bluffing about the gun in an attempt to scare the cashier.
Now, he’s sitting in the Taylor County Jail, facing robbery and resisting arrest charges, with a bond set at $35,000. Maybe he’ll use the time to rethink his life choices — and trim his nails.
This is one of those “Only in Texas” stories that we’ll be laughing about for years. It’s a good reminder that crime doesn’t pay, but you might just get some free comedy out of it.
What’s the wildest crime story you’ve ever heard? Let me know!
