Texas Tech has been accused of killing 4 animal research subjects by the group Stop Animal Exploitation Now.

KAMC News reports that a federal complaint was filed on June 21st against Texas Tech University after the group obtained unpublished university records that document the killing of 4 research subjects.

A press release says that 2 Texas Tech staff killed research subjects on 2 separate occasions during a procedure in which liquid compounds were administered into the stomach. It’s said the procedures damaged the inside of the throats and chests of test pigs, causing “agonal breathing” soon after the procedure.

SAEN’s complaint says the deaths of these 4 pigs violates federal regulations for animal handling and personnel qualifications.

Executive director and co-founder of the organization Michael Budkie says the staff that conducted the “basic procedure” should never be allowed to touch animals again.
