Texas Tech President Announces Return to Campus Coming Soon

The Texas Tech campus has been mostly empty since last March, but that's about to change according to University President Lawrence Schovanec. In a letter to Texas Tech students, Schovanec says that the University will return to face-to-face instruction as the primary method of teaching in the fall of 2021.

If you've been itching for in-person schooling you won't have to wait for the fall though. In the summer sessions, Texas Tech will offer in-person courses at 50% classroom capacity. I'd also bet that you're teacher won't do that weird thing where they lean over on your desk with their legs out straight but in a really wide split. You know what I'm talking about.

Schovanec says that the university will review safety protocols at the end of the Spring semester, which I read as masks and capacity.

That being said, Schovanec said this in a letter to the faculty in staff, "Thus, based on an expectation that by next August the percentage of the U.S. population that has acquired immunity to COVID-19 through vaccination will result in an environment with minimal risk of disease spread, we believe it is safe for departments to plan for normal capacity in classrooms and teaching laboratories."

Reading both letters, it seems like Texas Tech is prepared to offer both a robust online catalog in the future as well as a campus that is 100% open and potentially mask-free in the fall of 2021.
