Texas Tech University Says Woman Yelling Racial Slur in Viral Video Is Not a Student

Recently, a woman named "Alyssa" made shockingly racist comments on a Snap video that was uploaded to Twitter and went viral.

Chris Cook, Texas Tech University's Managing Director at the Office of Communications & Marketing, issued the following statement in response to the viral video:

We have conducted an inquiry into the disturbing video circulated on social media. The Office of the Dean of Students has identified the individuals in the video and is in the process of determining if additional action may be necessary for any who may be Texas Tech students. The party making the offensive remarks is not a Texas Tech student.

Cook said the woman in the video who yelled the racial slur is not a Texas Tech University student. However, after the video's release, Zeta Tau Alpha issued a statement disavowing her and her behavior, but calling her one of its members.

We asked the sorority if any action had been taken against the member in question. We have yet to receive a response.
