This Texas Airport Makes You Walk Further Than Any Other
If there was an 'Everyday People Olympics', I have a suggestion: 'Speed walking between airport gates'. Which might seem silly until you realize just how FAR some of these distances can be.
Although, walking in a airport isn't really that bad as long as you're not rushed to make a connection or something. Lots of snack options, bars, people to watch, and watching planes take off and land is ALWAYS cool!
Anyway...
There's some new data out, which shows the airports with the longest walks. And some of them REALLY force you to get your steps in!
Here's the Top Five. And it's worth noting, the distances are just from the baggage check-in area to the farthest gates. The distances could be even longer between two gates on opposite ends.
- Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport-Longest Distance: 2.16 miles.
- Washington-Dulles Intl. Airport-Longest Distance: 1.62 miles.
- George Bush Intl. Airport in Houston-Longest Distance: 1.52 miles.
- Denver Intl. Airport-Longest Distance: 1.45 miles.
- JFK Intl. Airport in New York-Longest Distance: 1.38 miles.
Here's something interesting I found while researching this story:
King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia is the world's largest airport by land area, covering 300 square miles, which is roughly the size of New York City. It's more than 10 times larger than Dallas/Fort Worth International! That's HUGE!
Here's the top 5 BIGGEST in the world:
- King Fahd International (DMM) - 300 square miles. ...
- Denver International Airport (DEN) - 53 square miles. ...
- Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) - 39 square miles. ...
- Istanbul Airport (IST) - 30 square miles. ..
- Dallas/Fort Wort International Airport (DFW) - 27 square miles
Here's a video showing just how big King Fahd International Airport actually is:
