United Supermarkets & Cheez-It Give $10,000 to South Plains Teachers
Hey, Lubbock—here’s a feel-good story to brighten your day! United Supermarkets and fine folks over at Cheez-It (my ALL TIME favorite snack!) just teamed up to donate $10,000 to support educators across the South Plains! This generosity is part of the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers initiative, which helps teachers get the tools they need to make learning awesome and fun for their students.
On Wednesday in Slaton, United Supermarkets and Cheez-It handed over the big check to help fund classroom projects through DonorsChoose, a platform where teachers can request support for specific needs in their schools. The funds will go to educators in eight South Plains schools, including:
- Slaton High School
- Capitol Elementary School
- Monterey High School
- Frenship High School
- And more!
In case you didn’t know, the CFP Foundation is the biggest sports organization dedicated to helping teachers, and they’re crushing it with this initiative! Cheez-It, a CFP partner, is donating $300,000 nationwide, and we’re lucky enough to see a chunk of that right here in our backyard.
“We are so thankful for the opportunity to work with Kellanova and its brands like Cheez-It to make a difference in our communities,” said Sidney Hopper, president of United Supermarkets. “Supporting education by supporting our teachers is foundational to helping our communities thrive.”
Let’s not forget: United Supermarkets has been a West Texas staple for over a century, with headquarters right here in Lubbock. They’re constantly giving back, whether it’s through hunger relief, local events, or in this case, helping our incredible teachers and students succeed!
So here’s a big shoutout to the amazing educators who are shaping future leaders, and to United Supermarkets and Cheez-It for stepping up in a huge way. West Texas pride runs deep, and this is just another example of how our community takes care of its own!
