31-year-old Raymond Phelps, who was involved in a crash on East Loop 289 on Saturday, was pronounced deceased Monday evening.

The crash happened just after 6 a.m. in the 3900 block of East Loop 289. Lubbock Police had received a report of a major crash involving a car that had fallen from the overpass and caught fire.

The fire was extinguished and Lubbock Fire Rescue used the Jaws of Life to remove Phelps.

It appears that Phelps was traveling north when he veered into the median, hit the guardrail and fell between the overpasses, causing the car to catch on fire.
