I grew up in Texas and had a VERY southern grandmother (and mother, for that matter) which means I ate a lot of so-called 'Southern food' when I was growing up. That's probably why I still love most of the staples to this day!

Collard greens, turnips, squash, watermelon,. cantaloupe, black-eyed peas, cornbread, pinto beans, polk salad, biscuits, gravy...and FRIED CHICKEN! I love all of it! Odds are, you probably do too.

But what if you came from a place where they are known for their truly awful food, like Great Britain? Well, these British teenagers got to live the dream and try some southern favorites for the very first time, and the results are hysterical! Especially when they get to try the fried chicken with white gravy. Check it out...

The confusion on their faces when they're presented with a traditional southern biscuit is great since they know that particular item better as a scone and they're quite puzzled...until they taste it! "Americans are lucky!", said one kid with his mouth full of buttery deliciousness.

Then they bring out the white gravy, to which one kid says, "WHAT??? WHY!?!" Another said, "That is NOT gravy!" and still another said, "It's all lumpy...looks like vomit!"

Then they tried it and they nearly fell out of their chairs! They LOVED it!

Then comes the southern fried chicken, and these guys were certainly familiar with it, but had never tasted it. "That is SOOOO good! It actually makes me happy how good it is!" one said. While dipping it in the gravy another said, "This is the best thing I've ever had with chicken in my life!"

It appears that these kids from across the pond now have a love affair with southern cooking just like the rest of us tubby Americans!
