What is the Most ‘Texan’ City?
As a very, very proud Texan, it's hard to narrow down my pick for the most 'Texas' city in the Lone Star State.
Dallas can't be the winner because it's too bougie (as the kids say) and the people there are more like New Yorkers than Texans. Even with the success of the iconic TV show that bears it's name and the attention it brought to the state, Dallas just doesn't seem like a contender.
El Paso isn't even in our time zone for cryin' out loud! Plus they're waaaaay down there with a highway that literally divides Texas from Mexico. I also don't think many people from outside of Texas think of the Sun City when they think of Texas.
Austin is off the table! I love Austin. I love the people there. I love the food. I love the music. It's a FANTASTIC city all on it's own, but our state capitol is more 'arts and entertainment' than what I would assume an outside would consider 'Texan'.
The winner in my opinion...
San Antonio! It has the Alamo.
I was gonna just stop there because the Alamo is as 'Texas' as Texas gets! But, San Antonio has so much more to offer! From the River Walk to the Spurs to the food...it's just great! If a person were traveling from Europe or somewhere and asked me where to go to get the full Texas experience, I'd send them directly to San Antonio for a couple of days then have them head to Austin for a day then off to the hidden Hill Country to see Fredericksburg, Luckenbach and all points in between!
If I didn't love to live in Lubbock, my #1 spot to move to would be San Antonio. My #2 choice would be our 'Honorable Mention'...Ft. Worth!
Yes, Ft. Worth is also a very 'Texan' city. Some would argue it's more Texan than San Antonio, and they might be right. It was basically a coin flip for me to decide between the two!
So, what about your opinion? Am I way off base here?
