If you are a fan of the United States Air Force, a fan of history, and you like to get up close and personal with planes, you won't want to miss out on this weekend's Big Country Air Fest in Abilene. Aircraft will arrive on Friday May 20 and will continue to arrive on Saturday, May 21. The aircraft will leave Abilene on Sunday.

This year's theme for AirFest 2022 is Flying for Freedom and it will take place on the west side of the Abilene Regional Airport on Navajo Trail in Abilene.

Gates will open at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and the admission price is... nothing. That's right. This airshow is absolutely free to the public.

Some of the planes you will see take off, fly around, and land include the Dyess B-1B, the Dyess C-130J, B-25 "Devil Dog", a T-28, the P-63 King Cobra, the P-40, and the T-34. You'll also see other planes that will remain on the ground that you can check out and even tour. Speaking of "checking out" the planes. There will be an opportunity to buy a ride on at least two of the planes while you are there.

In addition to the planes on the ground and in the air, there will be vendors and food for sale throughout the day. If you want to watch the entire show, you should know that gates don't even close until 4:00 p.m. Those attending can bring water bottles, but no outside food, coolers, or backpacks will be allowed inside. No pets either.
