Lubbock is at the top of some lists, and the bottom of others. That can be good or bad, depending on the list. But being 10th on this list is bad, very bad. But we can change this if people would make smarter choices.

The Houston law firm Sutliff & Stout ranked Texas cities by the number of drunk driving deaths each year. Lubbock came in 10th, and that's not good. Add to that the fact that this information covers the last five years of drunk driving deaths and it's even worse than before.

The top 10 of the list looks like this:

1) Odessa
6.26 drink driving deaths per 100,000 residents

2) Midland
6.19 drunk driving deaths per 100,000 residents

3) Dallas
5.88 drunk driving deaths per 100,000 residents

4) San Marcos
5.21 drunk driving deaths per 100,000 residents

5) San Antonio
5.15 drunk driving deaths per 100,000 residents

6) Baytown
5.12 drunk driving deaths per 100,000 residents

8) Waco
4.62 drunk driving deaths per 100,000 residents

9) Houston
4.36 drunk driving deaths per 100,000 residents

10) Lubbock
4.10 drunk driving deaths per 100,000 residents

Lubbock has ranked higher than much larger metros like Austin, Fort Worth, El Paso, Arlington, Corpus Christi and many others. And while four deaths per 100,000 residents is a small number, keep in mind that the top 9 cities all had under 1 death per 100,000 residents.

I think Lubbock can do a LOT better when it comes to drinking and driving, and we should do everything we can to put a stop to it.
