South Plains College’s Radiologic Technology Program received funding to purchase a new full-body radiographic phantom for its program.

The phantom, also known as a mannequin, costs roughly $26,000 dollars. SPC received a $13,000 grant from the Lubbock Osteopathic Fund, and SPC provided the remaining funds. The phantoms are used to teach students proper procedures essential for x-rays.

Clinton Bishop, the Program Coordinator and Instructor in Radiologic Technology, states that, "The new phantom is so much more durable than the previous models."

Bishop added: "We are very grateful for the assistance from the Lubbock Osteopathic Fund and our administrators, Dr. Robin Satterwhite and Dr. Ryan Gibbs."

The current phantoms in use by the college are nearly 11 years old.
