There Is Still 1 Republic of Texas Marker Left in the State

Texas is the only state that has been its own country. And at one point we had border markers that showed where the United States ended and the Republic of Texas started.

That was a long, long time ago, however. Most of those markers have been removed or lost to the ravages of time. But in east Texas, along the Louisiana and Texas border, there stands the last remaining marker of the country that was Texas.

Just southeast of the Texas town of Deadwood (not the South Dakota town of HBO fame) on FM 31 you can find an historical landmark sign standing next to the 1840 granite marker that denotes where America ended and Texas began.
