17 Percent of Lubbock Population Has Received COVID-19 Vaccine

Even with the historic winter freeze in Lubbock, the city's vaccination efforts continued last week. The City of Lubbock reports that as of this week (Feb. 22), about 17% of the Lubbock population has received at least 1 dose of the COVID vaccine. That’s about 34,613 people, while 12,942 people have received the 2nd dose. 

Cases of COVID-19 also remain low, with only 26 cases reported on Sunday, Feb. 21, and no new fatalities. Only 450 cases of the virus remain active in Lubbock County. It's also been almost 30 straight days since Lubbock County started reporting a COVID hospitalization percentage below 15%. As of this writing, it's reported to be 5% with local hospitals treating only 48 total COVID patients.

Despite the low amount of cases, Lubbock’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts have taken a small hit due to the recent winter weather. The vaccine clinic that was scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23, has been cancelled as vaccine shipments across the State are delayed.

According to Texas Health and Human Services, the Lubbock Health Department is to receive another 5000 dose shipment of the COVID vaccine this week. Although it's unclear exactly when the Health Department's clinics will continue, when the vaccines do arrive, those who had a second dose appointment scheduled for Tuesday may attend a clinic on another day this week.

In related news, CVS pharmacies are also actively offering COVID-19 vaccination appointments, although as of this writing all Lubbock appointments are currently filed.
