Celine Dion Turns Rap Verses Into Ballads on ‘Ellen': ‘My Career Is Going To End’
Celine Dion, who released the beautiful, melancholy "Recovering" Friday (September 9) in honor of her late husband Rene Angelil, is deservedly having a little fun on today's (September 12) episode of The Ellen Degeneres Show.
Degeneres, no stranger to spoof segments, challenges Dion to take her signature balladry and apply it to hip hop staples in the segment, featured above.
"I want you to keep growing as an artist, so we put some rap songs in the prompter," Degeneres says in the clips.
"What?!" Dion asks incredulously. The singer immediately agrees to play ball, though it's clear she's not totally familiar with the playlist's entirety.
The segment begins with a rendition of Nelly's "Hot in Here" that's philharmonic-ready. Still, don't expect it to find a spot in her Las Vegas residency.
"What is that?" Dion asks before diving into a second song, "Shots" by LMFAO featuring Lil John. "My career is going to end tonight."
Then comes Britney Spears' "Work Bitch" (not a rap song) in which Dion won't utter the titular vulgarity and says "bikini" in a way that we should all consider saying "bikini."
Finally, she closes out the show with a take on Missy Elliott's "Work It" that includes the world's most affecting backwards-scat. Sorry your title's been usurped, Kim Cattrall.
