Months after closing its theaters nationwide, Cinemark has finally scheduled a re-opening date for one of its theaters in Lubbock.

Cinemark Tinseltown, located just off 82nd Street and University, will reopen to the public on Friday, August 14th, 2020. The Cinemark Movie 16 theater at 5721 58th Street has not yet released a reopening date.

Cinemark closed all of its theaters on March 18th, 2020 after the coronavirus first began to spread throughout the United States. The theater chain originally scheduled their two Lubbock theaters to re-open on July 3rd and July 17th (respectively), but that plan was derailed after Texas experienced a surge in COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations.

When it does reopen on August 14th, Cinemark’s Tinseltown location in Lubbock will not be showing new releases right away. Instead, the theater is showing classic movies like Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park and more.

Ticket prices are just $5 per person for most movies, and Cinemark is offering a deal they call a Private Watch Party, in which a group of up to 20 people can rent out an auditorium for $99 and select the movie they want to watch from a list of 18 different choices.

According to their website, Cinemark is taking cleanliness seriously as theaters get ready to reopen across the U.S. Auditoriums will be cleaned each morning with pressurized sprayer equipment and seats will be sanitized between showings. Face masks must be worn inside the theater unless eating or drinking, and seating capacities have been reduced to encourage social distancing inside auditoriums.

Cinemark’s popular annual refillable cup and popcorn tubs will no longer be useable when theater’s reopen. Instead, the theater will honor the refillable discount by providing a new single-use container. In addition, Cinemark is extending the valid dates of the 2020 refillable discount through March 31, 2021, to make up for the time their theaters were closed during the summer of 2020.
