Food connects us all, from large family gatherings, holiday traditions, street food, and so much more.

Brenda Garcia, corporate dietitian at United Supermarkets, says they carry many food and products representative of other countries — including many that are quite nutritious and that you might already eat. For example, hummus is from the Middle East.

If you'd like to take an international trip via food, Garcia suggests starting with something familiar, such as a recipe that is Mexican, Italian, Chinese, or Thai. From there, you can expand to less familiar recipes, such as dishes from Africa.

Another option is to explore international foods in the store and build a dish around ones you'd like to try. Here are a few of our suggestions:

Like other products throughout the store, international options are tagged with the appropriate lifestyle tag, such as gluten-free, whole grains, no added sugar, soy-free, or fiber. You don't have to abandon your dietary needs and priorities to try new foods.

Good luck on your culinary adventure. We hope you find some new favorites to liven up your family meals!
