Discover The Latest TikTok Craze: Upside Down Pizza Recipe In A Cast Iron Skillet
Now, here’s something for my fellow food experimenters. There’s a TikTok trend that’s got my attention: Upside-Down Pizza in a cast iron skillet! Think of it like a classic pizza, just assembled in reverse.
Here's what you do:
- Start with your favorite meat toppings (or you can omit the meat, obviously).
- Add your veggies – mushrooms, olives, and maybe a handful of jalapenos or bell peppers if you want.
- Next comes the cheese (load that thing up with mozzarella! I would probably add provolone too.)
- Pour on the pizza sauce of your choice, and then--here’s the twist…
- Lay the pizza dough right on top!
Pop the whole thing into the oven at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes, and when it's ready, grab a big cutting board, flip it over, and hold your breath. If TikTok doesn’t lie, you’ll be rewarded with a golden, bubbly masterpiece of a pizza pie, crispy on the outside and loaded with saucy goodness on the inside. It kinda looks like a Chicago-style deep dish when it's done.
I tried it myself, and here’s the verdict: Not bad at all! The dough on top bakes into a thick, golden crust, while the toppings meld together underneath. The best part? You don’t have to worry about cheese sliding off – it’s all locked in. Plus, it was kinda fun to make!
Reference the video below. I made it basically just like this guy did, and it was certainly good--but I would make some tweaks. The only things I'll do different next time is I'll add more cheese and less sauce. I'll also find a better pizza dough. I used Pillsbury and while it was 'ok', I think I'd like to experiment with other brands. Do you have a raw pizza dough you particularly like?
Anyway, grab your skillet, and get creative! Happy pizza-making, Lubbock!
