Lubbock Police received a call at around 2:40 p.m. on Friday, February 18th in reference to a driver who couldn't slow down from 90 miles an hour on South Loop 289.

The driver of the Toyota Camry said that their brakes weren't working, so dispatchers immediately started thinking of ways that they could stop the vehicle. Multiple attempts were made by the driver to slow down, but police eventually took matters into their own hands.

One officer positioned their vehicle in front of the Camry to try and contain it, but the Camry collided with the back of the officer's vehicle. This caused the officer to collide into an additional vehicle on the road. However, police did manage to achieve their goal, and the vehicle was stopped.

The driver of the Camry, who hasn't been identified, sustained minor injuries and was transported to University Medical Center. The driver of the additional vehicle struck by the officer also sustained minor injuries. The officer was uninjured.

The westbound lanes of North Loop 289 were closed between University Avenue and the Highway 84 exit towards Littlefield while crews responded to the scene of the crash.
