Back on July 3rd, a statewide mask mandate went into effect in Texas. Under Governor Greg Abbott's order, any county in Texas that has more than 20 coronavirus cases is under the order to wear a mask or face covering in public when social distancing is not possible.

According to the governor's order, first time violators will be given a warning, and repeat offenders could be ordered to pay a $250 fine. It's unknown if any Texan has actually been fined yet.

Since his order in July, Governor Abbott has stressed masks and face coverings as vital to keeping Texas open.

If you're looking to purchase your first mask or maybe you want to add to your collection and save a little money, you're in luck. In a tweet on Thursday, the Texas Comptroller's office announced that masks and face coverings are included on the list of items that are tax-free this weekend.

Tax-free weekend begins on Friday, August 7th and runs through Sunday, August 9th. You can find more information about what all is tax-free this weekend by clicking on the this KFYO story from Thursday.

If you're wondering how long we will be under a mask mandate in Texas, there really is no good answer.

On Thursday, Governor Abbott warned Texans that this flu season will be like none other and encouraged Texans to get a flu shot early. The governor also said that continued social distancing and wearing face masks could cut down on the amount of flu cases in Texas.
