Three Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmates and one TDCJ employee in the South Plains region have died from COVID-19.

60-year-old Kenneth Harbin was assigned to the Daniel Unit in Snyder and had over 30 years of service in the TDCJ. He was treated at Covenant Medical Center from June 28th to July 4th after he contracted COVID-19.

54-year-old David Martinez had served 5 years of an 8 year sentence for Sexual Assault of a Child. Martinez died on May 8th at a Lubbock hospital after being transferred from the Smith Unit in Lamesa.

65-year-old Alvin Ray Spencer had served 18 years on a 35 year sentence for Indecency with a Child. He died on June 25th after being transferred from the same unit as Martinez.

KAMC News reports that 54-year-old Alfredo De La Vega had served 20 years of a 20 year sentence for Aggravated Sexual Assault. He died at a local hospital on May 5th after being transported from the Montford Unit in Lubbock.

So far, 94 offender deaths have been linked to COVID-19 in the state of Texas, and there have been a total of 9 employee deaths from the virus.
