Has a Former Lubbock Chicken Shack Picked Up a Spicy New Identity?
To quote the late, great Sam Cooke: "Everybody Likes To Cha Cha Cha."
With that in mind, the former brick-and-mortar location of a Lubbock Food Truck is evolving into a spicy, Latin vibe.
It was earlier this year when the owner's of Hank's Chicken announced that they were moving their cluck to a truck, giving up their location in the Depot District at 1823 Buddy Holly Avenue. Since that time, they've been popping up at events all over the South Plains.
Now, after driving down 19th Street past their former location, it was hard to miss the new, bright colors that had been splashed all over the building, along with the new signage.
Yes, I took the photo from my car.
Doing a quick internet search, a tax permit for "Cha Cha's Mexican Cafe" in Lubbock was entered back in June. There's very little other information to go on, as the only other Cha Cha's Cafe that turned up on Google or Facebook that I could find easily was based in Mansfield, Texas. The Lubbock location still has no social media or online presence, so it's hard to tell if this will be another location of that Fort Worth area eatery.
Based on the murals on the wall (yeah, we know, hard-hitting investigation on our part), it looks like they're going to spice things up in the Depot District with a variety of tacos, burritos and salsas. A sign on the door also indicates that they have applied for their liquor license, which means that the margaritas are about to flow as well.
Of course, if Cha Cha's was opening up on Slide Road, they'd have to use this song in their commercials:
"Cha Cha Slide" -- get it? Ahem. We'll just show ourselves out.
