Lubbock Pride Makes The Right Move
Lubbock Pride has announced a new location and it's awesome for a number of reasons.
Lubbock Pride has held events in Lubbock City Parks and some people were not okay with it. These are people who have no idea what happens at these types of events and love to say "I don't want my tax dollars paying for that", even though Lubbock Pride participants also pay taxes. The public park situation also made it easier for haters and trolls to attend the event to try to spoil everyone's good time.
Last year a move was made to the Depot District and it ended up being a super-upgrade. The place was packed with tons of booths and fun. Having events in this area can be a little uncomfortable though because you're partying on asphalt which is not ideal.
This year's event will be located in the much more friendly confines of the LHUCA Plaza at 5th and Avenue J. This area is a bit more private and has some nice green spaces as well as some built-in seating. The area has recently been used for the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market and is a nice little oasis in downtown. Parking can be a tiny bit of a challenge but is manageable.
All of this is good news for potential vendors. The event is happening on June 22nd. While I hate that Lubbock Pride doesn't feel especially welcome in City Parks, and I'm sure they were thankful for the Depot District hospitality, this location will ultimately prove much more usable and enjoyable overall.
