This may be the greatest thing I've ever tried to write while giggling like a 12-year-old.

What's Happening?

The Texas Tech Lady Raiders will feature halftime wiener dog races while hosting Kansas this Saturday, January 6th at United Supermarket Arena. As of this writing, it appears you can still show off your wiener by filling out this form here.

Why Is This Hilarious?

Wiener dogs are just plain funny when they run (as are Corgi's). There is something about a Dauchsund's little legs churning away trying to get purchase on those hardwood floors that is downright zany. Of course, there is also quite often chaos as the dogs get distracted and/or run in ways that are not intended.

Why It Is Necessary

I believe every once in a while that sports needs a moment not to take itself too seriously and remember that the spirit of competition is not life or death. It's also important to put on events like this to bring potential new fans into the mix and reinvigorate the old ones. In other words, "Come for the wieners, stay for the Raiders".

It's Inexpensive

Tickets for this event run $10-$12 and are all in the lower bowl area (you're close up to the action). Coach Krista Gerlich has created a model program for Texas Tech that is full of classy, disciplined, and exceptional athletes. I cannot recommend that you enjoy this, or any game, enough (especially if you get to make wiener jokes the entire time).

In Case We Caught You In Time

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, don't forget that the Lady Raiders host the 10th-ranked Longhorns this Wednesday night at United Supermarkets Area. It would be brilliant if we could hand the Longhorns a loss on the heels of the football team losing the Sugar Bowl.
