A Plea for More Lubbock Businesses to Use Too Good to Go
One of the things I hated the most about working in food service was how much food would be thrown out at the end of the day. Employees weren’t allowed to take it home, and so much perfectly good food would go to waste every single day.
Unfortunately, this is just what happens when it comes to selling food. Some items can’t be kept for the next day and have to be thrown out.
Seeing this and wanting to make a change is what formed the app Too Good to Go.
It is an app where businesses can sell their food products that are still good to eat but wouldn’t be usable the next day. So, instead of throwing it out, people can purchase a mystery bag of whatever the restaurant, bakery, or grocery store has left over at a discounted price.
This app is used all over, and there are a few spots that use this service in Lubbock. But I think there should be way more on there.
C’mon guys, this is a way to not only reduce food waste, but also get some extra money for the food you otherwise would’ve tossed out. I don’t understand why more businesses aren’t taking advantage of this platform.
Many of the places that are currently using the app in Lubbock are selling out daily.
It’s good for the business, good for consumers, and good for the environment. What’s not to like?
