For right now it's still Trump vs. Nikki Haley for the Republican nomination.

In the race for the White House in 2024, one major Republican name won't be on the ballot during the Presidential Primary, Ted Cruz. According to the Houston Chronicle, Cruz told supporters Monday night his plans.

And his plans do include being on the ballot, but as seeking re-election to the U.S. Senate and winning a third term.

Cruz came in second to former President Donald Trump in the 2016 primary and has been open before about wanting to run again for the White House. In fact, Cruz has said before that he had a great time running in 2016.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Cruz told supporters that he believed Democrats are getting ready to spend big money against his re-election bid since he only defeated Democrat Beto O'Rourke by 3 points in 2018.

In his 2024 Senate race, Cruz said he’s preparing for Democrats to come for him after he won by less than 3 percentage points in 2018. He predicted Democrats would try to spend more than $100 million against him.

"After Donald Trump, there is no Republican in the country that Democrats want to beat more than me," he said.

Cruz, first elected in 2012, won re-election in 2018 over Democrat Beto O'Rourke. He has frequently talked about how much he enjoyed running for president in 2016, and said he was considering another run.

The decision by Senator Cruz not to run in 2024 for the White House is not too surprising given that former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are seen as the two favorites in the Republican Party. But that didn't stop former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley from announcing her Presidential campaign on Tuesday.
