Jarrett Culver is the hometown kid. He chose to come to Texas Tech as a part of Chris Beard's first recruiting class, and in two short seasons has been a large part of Texas Tech's success.

The former three-star guard from Coronado High School picked Texas Tech over Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M and 10 other offers.

For his efforts as a senior in high school, Culver was named the LSV player of the year. He led the Mustangs in scoring, boards and assists. He scored at least 20 in 28 of the 34 games. He blew by 30 points 14 times, and had three 40-point games.

As a Red Raider, Jarrett Culver forced his way into the mix early, playing in all 37 games as a freshman and starting 20 of them. The freshman averaged double digit points and was second on the team in rebounds, behind fellow freshman and NBA player Zhaire Smith.

The sophomore campaign is where Culver blossomed into a player of the year candidate, All-American superstar. Much like he did in high school, Culver led the team in points, rebounds and assists, all while taking home the Big 12 Player of the Year award and leading Texas Tech to a Big 12 Championship, playing elite defense.

In six NCAA tournament games, Culver averaged more than 18 points per game and had three games with at least eight rebounds. Those numbers are great, but there was still the feeling that Culver had more left in the tank after Texas Tech lost in the National Championship game to Virginia.

Taking all of that into account, Jarrett Culver called fans, media, and anyone else who wanted to join to the United Supermarkets Arena to make his big announcement.

After taking the podium and thanking God, his family and Head Coach Chris Beard, he moved on to thanking his teammates from the past two seasons, and the Texas Tech fanbase for their support. Then, it was decision time, and that decision is that Jarrett Culver will be heading to the NBA. He will likely be a top 5 pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

Coach Beard then spoke and talked about his time with Culver and said that he was the number one draft pick in his book. After Beard and Culver both spoke, Texas Tech played this video has to highlight Culver's Texas Tech career.
