‘Sun’s Up, Guns Up!’ Red Raider Pride Echoes Through the U.S. House
Lubbock pride went national today--and loud. Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) took to the House floor in Washington, D.C. to celebrate what Red Raider fans across West Texas already know: Texas Tech Football is having a season for the history books!

Opening with a phrase that instantly hits home on the South Plains, Arrington declared,
As we say in West Texas, ‘Sun’s up, guns up!’
From there, it was full throttle praise for a Texas Tech team that didn’t just win games--they dominated.
A Historic Season for the Red Raiders
Arrington highlighted the Red Raiders’ historic 11-win regular season, noting an average victory margin of more than 35 points. That kind of dominance hasn’t been seen in Lubbock since 2008, and this year’s run ended with something even bigger--Texas Tech’s first outright Big 12 Championship.

That title didn’t just earn bragging rights. It punched Tech’s ticket to the College Football Playoff, putting the Red Raiders within reach of their first-ever national championship.
For Lubbock and West Texas, this season has been about more than football--it’s been about validation.
West Texas Values on a National Stage
Arrington made it clear that this team represents more than wins and trophies. He praised Head Coach Joey McGuire, his staff, and the student-athletes for embodying what West Texans are known for: grit, work ethic, humility, and heart.
Calling Texas Tech “America’s team,” Arrington described the university as a Main Street school, filled with students from working families and rooted in faith, family, and perseverance. He compared the Red Raiders to the pioneers who settled the Great Plains—people who worked hard, fought harder, and never waited for handouts.
In classic West Texas fashion, he emphasized that Tech doesn’t complain about being overlooked. Instead, they earn respect the hard way.
Lubbock Heads to Miami, Guns Up
Arrington closed with a message that fired up Red Raiders everywhere, confirming he’ll be in Miami on New Year’s Day, surrounded by loud, proud Tech fans cheering on their team on college football’s biggest stage.
