Join The Fastest-Growing High School Bowling District In Texas!
West Texas High School Bowling Club (WTHSBC) is the governing body for the West Texas District of Texas High School Bowling. High School Bowling in the Lubbock area is going into its 5th year. In 2020, high school bowling started in the Lubbock area with 52 high school students from schools; Monterey, Coronado, Lubbock-Cooper, Idalou, Abernathy, Frenship, Southcrest, Talkington and Lubbock High.
West Texas High School Bowling Club has grown to 132 students from around the Lubbock area and is the fastest growing district in the state. We now have teams from Smyer, Plainview, Idalou, Frenship, Monterey, Coronado, Lubbock High, Estacado, Talkington, Lubbock-Cooper, Shallowater and Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (New this year.)
WTHSBC has sent 4 boys teams to the state tournament and 1 girls team in our four years. WTHSBC has sent 10 boys and 3 girls to the state tournament as individuals. In 2023, Noah Narbaez from Lubbock High was the Texas Boys State Champion.
West Texas High School Bowling Club will be having a Preview on Saturday, September 14th, 2024 from 12:30PM to 2:30PM at Whitewood Lanes. Students who want more information about how to bowl for their school as well as start their school’s bowling program can come and learn about High School Bowling and bowl for free. High School Bowling is growing in the Lubbock area and there are still school districts in the area who have not fielded teams yet. We need help in getting the information out to the public.
WTHSBC is a 501(c)3 corporation which is not for profit. Each school does not contribute any funds to our program and each school’s team has to raise its own money to participate in high school bowling as it is a club sport statewide. Please, consider doing an interview with us, posting on your social media or any other creative way to help us continue to grow the sport of high school bowling in our area as we have no money to advertise.
Many of our students want to compete for their school, but traditional athletics in the area may prevent them from doing so. High School bowling allows these students the same high school experience in a sport that is non-traditional and without the threat of being cut from the team. We are inclusive and not exclusive. We offer a JV program where everyone can compete for their school. Our coaches go through a background check and are required to attend classes from SafeSport which is the coaches training classes for Team USA Olympics. It is a positive, safe, controlled environment for students to have fun and learn life skills like teamwork, ethics, leadership, and friendly competition.
Texas High School Bowling has been going on in the state since the 80’s. In its current form, Texas High School Bowling started in 2001-2002 season with 5 districts and 25 schools. By the 2022-2023 school year, Texas High School Bowling has grown to 27 districts and 161 schools and over 2500 bowlers.
