The chef/owner of Now We Taco'N took to recently took to Facebook with a heartbreaking plea on behalf of his employees and his family.

I can’t help but feel responsible, I’m having to cut hours for my team as we speak. This whole pandemic has taken a huge toll on my peers and our industry. I lead a small group of young adults and I try to instill valuable principals such as never giving up. I will not ever give up. I do humbly ask you for your business today. We need to sell more tacos is the honest truth. We promise to serve you with a smile and when you walk in the door your family! Shop local anyway you can.

It must have been terribly humbling to write, but during these incredibly difficult times, many of us could use a little help. When I was stuck at home with COVID-19, losing hundreds of dollars over the course of two weeks, I was more terrified for my finances than the fact that I couldn't catch my breath for two days. When my aunt and grandmother sent relief, I wept with an enormity of gratitude I've never experienced before.

Now We Taco'N was living the dream before COVID-19, graduating from a popular food truck into a brick-and-mortar in a desirable location near Texas Tech. Now that location has been rendered a ghost town- Texas Tech closed campus to students after the Thanksgiving holiday, and even before that many students opted for online classes to avoid a classroom setting (myself included).

I've eaten at Now We Taco'N many times. I can personally vouch that this is not a food quality or customer service issue. The food is delicious, at a great price, and served with the love and warmth of a friend.

Remember, small businesses are comprised of our friends, our family, and our neighbors. Money spent on small business is more likely to be spent and stay in our community, making it the best economic choice, if not just the best moral choice.

After posting their message, fans of Now We Taco'N came through and sold them out for the day. But a day does not a business make. These folks need our continued, consistent love and support, as do many other small businesses in our community.

Large chains have the capital to absorb short-term setbacks, while a family may have to go without if their business has a bad week. Next time you're hungry, give your love to a deserving local Lubbock family. Nothing feels quite as good as fueling another's dreams.

Now We Taco'N is closed on Mondays, but has great specials on Taco Tuesdays. Get ready for a great lunch or dinner. And the Al Pastor? It's to die for.
