Lubbock Area High Schools Ranked From Worst to First
Don't kill the messenger here. A popular website has current rankings of area schools, and I'm just reporting them.
This report hones in on academics, teachers, clubs and activities, administration, food, diversity, college prep, health & safety, food, sports and resources and facilities. I would also say that "worst" is still pretty good compared to most areas in Texas, and even the low performers have areas where they do really well.
With that in mind, here's the list of Lubbock area high schools from worst to first, according to the website, Niche.
Estacado High School. The school actually does really well in a number of areas, but is also dragged down by some average scores. Estacado also has a tiny bit of "brain drain" with the Talkington School right next door.
Richard Milburn Academy. Milburn does have a couple of As that are worth considering, but everything else is rated around average.
Premier High School Of Lubbock. You're looking at a really average performance here, except for resources and facilities, which came in as a D.
New Deal High School. The Lions pretty much got a mix of Cs and Bs in every category, only scoring well in diversity.
Coronado High School. Health & Safety, Food, and Administration all scored Cs.
Monterey High School. This is kind of sad. Monterey was dragged down in the health & safety area, which seems like an area we should always do good in. Otherwise, it was pretty much Bs across the board.
Roosevelt High School. This really is kind of the mid-performer in the survey, and that's a good thing. Mostly Bs still means "mostly above average."
Idalou High School. Idalou is just 14 minutes from Lubbock, so it was included in the survey. Food and facilities were some of the school's lower scoring areas.
Frenship. Food took a B- and several other categories took B+s, taking Frenship down a bit.
Lubbock Cooper High School. Cooper had Bs in Food and College Prep. Otherwise, really great scores here.
Lubbock High School. Lubbock High got dragged for C+ food, and B- sports.
Talking School For Young Women Leaders. The only place Talkington scored somewhat poorly in was sports, which is still a C+. All other categories were B+ or better.
