Swarm Of Bees Causes Chaos In South Lubbock Neighborhood
Thursday morning got a little too buzz-worthy in South Lubbock.
Bees EVERYWHERE!
Around 9:10 a.m. on July 17th, Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office received a frantic call from a residence in the 5600 block of FM 1585. The report? Multiple people — and even dogs — had been stung by an aggressive swarm of bees!
That’s right. A major bee infestation had taken over the walls of the home, and when the hive was accidentally disturbed, the swarm went into full defensive mode.
According to the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office, four residents were stung, and one woman had to be rushed to a local hospital for what officials believe may have been an allergic reaction. Her condition has not been publicly released, but we’re hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
Cops and Beekeepers Were on the Scene
Animal Control officers with the Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene along with the Lubbock Fire Department, who used water sprays to knock the bees out of the air long enough to get the situation under control.
A local beekeeper was also called in to help safely remove the massive hive from inside the home.
It was a sting operation — literally!

What to Do if it Happens to You
Officials remind the public that if you suspect any kind of insect infestation — especially with potentially dangerous bugs like bees — it’s best to leave it to the professionals. Pest control experts and licensed beekeepers are trained to handle situations like this safely. And if you or someone you know gets stung and shows signs of an allergic reaction, call 911 immediately.
According to the Sheriff’s Office:
Emergency? Dial 911
Non-emergency? Call 806-775-1600
Bee stings can be more than just painful — for some, they can be life-threatening.
So remember, if you hear a loud hum coming from your walls, don’t grab the bug spray — grab your phone and call someone who knows what they’re doing.
And to the brave folks with Lubbock Fire, Animal Control, and that beekeeper who came to the rescue — y’all are the bee's knees!
