If you’re in the market for a new ride in Lubbock, you might want to think twice before going with a “safe” car color like white, black, or gray—because those choices could cost you big time at trade-in.

The Study

According to a new study by iSeeCars, the color of your car has a direct impact on how much it’ll be worth when it’s time to sell. Let’s get straight to it: White cars lose the most value in Lubbock, with an average 3-year depreciation of 30.0%, or about $13,034. Black and gray aren’t far behind, both dipping close to that 30% mark. The average 3-year depreciation across all colors in Lubbock is 28.4%, or $13,256—just a tick better than the national average of 31.0%.

But here’s the surprise: the cars that keep their value the best in the Hub City are the ones you probably don’t see every day. Yellow tops the list for lowest depreciation in Lubbock at just 22.9%. Orange, green, gold, and even beige all fared better than the more “neutral” colors.
