Lubbock-Cooper Schools Deputy Superintendent Macy Satterwhite joined Lubbock's First News Friday (July 31) to discuss fundraising for the Siegel family after a golf cart accident injured 9-year-old Luke Siegel.

Lubbock-Cooper is giving employees the chance to purchase a jeans pass to wear jeans to school the first week of class. The money raised will benefit Luke Siegel, who was seriously injured when a golf cart he was riding in with a friend roller over.

"So if you're a Lubbock-Cooper parent and you see the faculty members wearing jeans the first week of school and it causes your eyebrows to raise, we're doing it for a good cause," said Satterwhite. "Lubbock-Cooper, even though we are a growing school district, we consider ourselves a large family."

Other than the jeans week pass for employees, Lubbock-Cooper is also taking donations from people in the community who want to donate to the Siegel family. There is a fund set up at Lubbock-Cooper ISD and donations can be dropped off or mailed to the central office. A GoFundMe page has also been set up for the family. At press time, it's raised more than $35,000.

Tim Siegel recently joined Lubbock-Cooper ISD as its district tennis coach after leaving his position as head coach of the Texas Tech tennis team. He headed the Red Raider tennis program for 23 years.
