Lubbock County Rollover Crash Ends in Arrest
Early this morning, the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious rollover crash in the 5300 block of North County Road 3000. The call came in at 2:06 a.m., not from a witness or the driver, but through an automatic cell phone crash detection feature—a powerful reminder of how technology can save lives.
The Driver's Condition
When dispatchers couldn’t make voice contact, deputies were sent to investigate. Upon arrival, they discovered a 2016 Ford Fusion that had rolled over and landed in a bar ditch after veering off the roadway. The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was found still inside.

What to Do If You're Involved in a Rollover Accident
Rollover accidents are some of the most dangerous types of crashes on the road. Here’s what you should do if you’re ever in one:
1. Stay Calm and Assess Injuries:
Check yourself and any passengers for injuries. Try not to move unless absolutely necessary.
2. Turn Off the Engine:
If you're conscious and can safely do so, turn off the car to reduce the risk of fire.
3. Exit Safely if You Can:
If the vehicle is stable and it's safe, unbuckle and exit. Use the doors or even break a window if needed. If you're trapped, stay calm and wait for first responders.
4. Call 911 (or let your phone do it):
If you’re able, call for help immediately. Newer smartphones often detect rollovers and call automatically—just like in this case.
5. Stay Visible and Wait for Help:
Use hazard lights or a flashlight to signal for help if it’s dark. Stay by the vehicle unless it’s dangerous.
Lubbock first responders are trained and ready—but your own preparedness could make all the difference. Be safe out there, folks.
