Lubbock ISD Approves Temporary Childcare for Covenant & UMC

The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees has approved an agreement with Covenant Health to provide childcare for hospital employees through at least April 15, 2020. They've entered into a similar agreement with UMC to provide childcare at a different facility beginning Mar. 30, 2020.

Beginning Wed. April 1, 2020, select Lubbock ISD employees and employees of Covenant Health will staff a childcare center at Ramirez Elementary School, located at 702 Avenue T. The Covenant childcare center will be staffed between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Covenant Health estimates that the center will take care of 145 children between the ages of 4 and 14.

Lubbock ISD is also staffing a temporary childcare provided for employees of University Medical Center. Lubbock ISD and UMC entered into a memorandum of understanding for the childcare last week. The UMC childcare center is located at Miller Elementary School, located at 6705 Joliet Drive. It will be staffed Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They expect to see close to 170 kids between the ages of 4 and 14.

According to KAMC News, both childcare programs for Covenant and UMC will provide breakfast and lunch to the kids they're serving and no more than eight people will be allowed in a room at a time to abide by social distancing guidelines.
