Lubbock Man Accused of Robbing Donut Shop and Cell Phone Store
36-year-old Dereck Rolando Garcia of Lubbock has been arrested for robbing Rita's Donuts on Thursday, April 1st and Cricket Wireless on Saturday, April 3rd.
Police say that back on April 1st, Garcia entered Rita's Donuts at around 8 a.m. in the morning. It's said he walked up to the counter and pointed a gun at an employee, demanding money from the register. KAMC News reports that Garcia told the employee not to scream or make any noise. After the employee complied, Garcia left in his car.
Then, just 2 days later on April 3rd, it's said that Garcia entered the Cricket Wireless a little bit after 2 p.m. and asked one of the employees about specific items, seemingly without interest. After talking with Garcia momentarily, the employee left to tend to other matters and eventually came back to the register. At that moment, Garcia allegedly pointed a gun at the employee and demanded all of the money in the register. The employee complied and Garcia fled the store.
Garcia was arrested on Saturday, April 17th and was charged with 2 counts of theft and 3 counts of aggravated robbery, according to Lubbock County Jail records. He's being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on bonds totaling $250,000.
