A Lubbock man was arrested after leading police on a high speed chase over the weekend. According to the Lubbock Police Department, officers were first called to a civil disturbance in the 1900 block of South Loop 289 at 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 2.

An SUV driven by a man named Rueben Sosa was apparently stopped in the eastbound lanes of South Loop 289. Police say Sosa had threatened to kill someone and stopped his SUV on the loop to try and keep the victim from driving away.

When Sosa saw police, he sped away and led officers on a high speed chase, sometimes reaching 80 miles per hour. After crashing his SUV in the 2000 block of 82nd Street, Sosa tried to flee on foot, but was tased and arrested in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex.

Sosa is being charged with evading arrest in a vehicle and on foot, resisting arrest, and aggravated assault. He was reportedly released on bail at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 3.
