Lubbock Man Arrested by SWAT Team After Death of 2-Month-Old Son
More information about a Lubbock man who engaged Lubbock Police in a SWAT standoff has been revealed. 38-year-David Garcia was arrested on Sunday, April 23, after being named the top suspect in the death of a 2-month-old infant.
KAMC news reports that the mother of the baby had left the baby with Garcia earlier in the week and claimed there had been no issues with the baby or any signs of injury. It was Thursday, April 20, that the incident occurred and a witness at the home told police that Garcia stated he had rolled over the baby while he was asleep.
Garcia did call the mother of the baby at 5:45 a.m. that Thursday morning stating that the 2-month-old was unresponsive at the time and instead of calling 911, as the mother suggested, he took the baby to the hospital. It was at this time that Garcia was met by the infants mother at the emergency room where Garcia then handed the lifeless child's body to a nurse and left.
It was after leaving the hospital that Garcia made attempted to hide from police and did contact multiple friends but seemed to be indecisive in what he was doing. Garcia did attempt to text several people even showing up to a female friends house acting paranoid stating that someone was after him.
After a medical exam was performed on the deceased infant it was discovered that the infant actual had healing fractures on his ribs, wrist, and ankle which mean that was not the first instance of abuse. Along with those fractures examiners also found bruises on the childs chest and brain bleeding with those signs of repeated abuse.
Garcia was arrested following an 8-hour SWAT standoff and was booked in the Lubbock County Detention Center . As per the publishing of this article, he remains in custody on Aggravated Assault and two counts of Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant charges on a $900,000 bond. The family of the baby, Liam Garcia, has set up a GoFundMe to help with the 2-month-olds funeral expenses.
