Lubbock Man Sentenced After Threatening Teller’s Life During Bank Robbery
On Thursday, September 2nd, a Lubbock man was sentenced to over 15 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to robbing a bank and threatening an employee's life.
KAMC News reports that back in February of 2021, 60-year-old David Chambliss entered the Bank of America in the 5100 block of 82nd Street. He then handed the teller a note which said "Give me the cash, only large bills, within 15 seconds, or you will die first."
One of the employees of the bank recognized Chambliss as a customer of the bank, and with this information, police were able to locate the license plate number for a vehicle associated with Chambliss. They eventually found that the same license plate had recently been scanned at a hotel, and that's where Chambliss was finally arrested.
It's also said that Chambliss attempted to rob an EZ Mart in the 7400 block of Quaker Avenue in Lubbock, making similar death threats to the employee. However, this plan backfired, as the employee was too scared to actually get the register open. Chambliss had to leave without anything.
Chambliss pleaded guilty to the robbery in May of 2021, and now must serve over 15-and-a-half years in federal prison on top of paying $500 in restitution.
